Fifty Things Friday

OK, not really. I wouldn't bore you with 50 random things about my life this week but I did skip Ten Things Thursday yesterday. I'd say 90% of my blogging friends are in Chicago right, now so the chances of anyone reading or commenting on my posts this weekend are pretty slim.
BUT, it just doesn't feel right not to blog, so here goes... some randomness.

  • I just baked about 100 cookies for the bake sale/lemonade stand tomorrow. Would you ask an alcoholic to watch over your liquor cabinet or tend to your bar? Then why the hell is the food and sugar addict baking cookies for a damn bake sale. Seriously, how do I get myself into this crap!

  • I made REAL chocolate chip cookies and REAL sugar cookies. I'm talking real butter, white flour, white sugar, the whole shebang. That hasn't happened in our house in many, MANY moons.

  • I just found out that I don't need to bring a table for the lemonade stand because I'm being given a golf cart and can just drive around from hole to hole to sell the goods! How freaking cool is that? I've never been on a golf course or cart. I'm not sure the manager knows what he's doing by trusting me with a motorized vehicle on his course.

  • My kids decided to donate half of our profits to the people of the Lakota Sioux tribe in South Dakota. They are the poorest Indian Reservation in the entire country and have an 85% unemployment rate. 65% of their people live below the poverty line. A Lakota can expect to live to about the ripe old age of 50. That's worse than any third world country, right here in America.

  • This is what happens when you gather up a group of people and force them to live on a piece of worthless land out in the middle of nowhere. No commerce, no stores, no money. My heart aches for them.

  • Today I feel fat and cranky. Not sure what's up with that but let's just blame it on hormones. Maybe I need a damn cookie!

  • I did body pump yesterday and kick boxing this morning. My legs are killing me right now. I'm pretty sure I'll need a wheel chair by morning.

  • My aforementioned exercise will in no way make up for the 3 cookies I ate while preparing for tomorrow's bake sale. I'm pretty sure I will not be getting on the scale tomorrow morning.

  • I am not an elegant baker. I am covered in flour and sugar. I could never have my own TV show. I'm just a big mess.

  • It's almost 4:00 and the kids will be home from school soon. I need to clean up this cookie making mess and try to take a 10 min. snooze. My youngest is a bear to deal with in the afternoons so I need to be fully prepared.
Have a great weekend everyone!

No Work Out Wednesday

I noticed a lot of you bloggers post about your work out on Wednesdays. Not me. Not today.
Wednesday is normally my day 'off' from the gym but I do Insanity early in the morning with the hubs before he goes to work.
However, last night I was up twice with the kids. Once for a trip to the potty. Yes, I'm thankful she didn't pee in her bed this time, but I really wish I could have a night of uninterrupted sleep!
The second time was for the older kiddo who had a nightmare.

So, no work out for me, technically.

I did dig in the garden and yard for close to 2 hours. I wonder how many calories that burned? I didn't break a sweat, even though my back was killing me at the end.

While digging in the yard I kept having this intense pain in the side of my head. My first thought was "I'm really going to be pissed if I have a stroke after all this getting healthy crap!".

Once I came in I realized the source of my headache. T.O.M. had arrived. I always have a head ache and back ache when it's the time of the month.
I'm on the pill people, and STILL have no idea when it's coming. I take it the same time every day faithfully, and there's still no rhyme or reason to my cycle. I'll be finding a new doctor in my area soon and hopefully getting on something else that will help with some regularity.

Other random stuff going on...

I just made these today and let me tell you, they are super yummy. WLS friendly and for me at least, band friendly. Be careful though because they are very filling and you'll have to stop yourself after just one. I used half white flour and half wheat.

Both my kids woke up complaining of a scratchy throat. I do believe school germs have infiltrated our home. I'm sure they are headed for their first cold of the season. Probably the first of many.

I have finally contacted my surgeons office to try and schedule my 2 year post-op appt. I know I'm over due but I live 2 hours away now and he wants me to have an Upper GI. I have to have the GI first at the hospital and then go to his office, so there are some scheduling issues there. Hopefully we can make this work so I don't have to drive there twice.

I went grocery shopping yesterday and for the first time in a very long time I feel like I have a plan for dinners this week. I suck at menu planning.

I made a pot of chili yesterday and even though I've made this recipe many times before, this time it turned out amazing. Hubs and I both had it again for lunch and now there are no left overs. Next time I'll have to make a double batch for sure!

My 1st grader has home work every night which sends her into a panic attack EVERY NIGHT. It's crazy. I can't imagine what this child will go through in 7th or 8th grade. I cringe at the thought. I don't know where she gets all this anxiety from and I wish there was a way I could take it away from her.

Well, it's almost 4:00 and I haven't even showered yet today! I better go get myself ready for the bus stop.

Have a great day everyone!

Ten Things Thursday

It's that time of week again where I get to share with you ten random things, just because!

1. Monday was my birthday. I turned 41. I can't say I'm thrilled with being officially in my 40's but considering the fact that I'm healthier than I was in my 30's, I'll take it.

2. Remember when I said a while back the only thing I wanted for my b-day was to go to McD's and get a R.O.L.O. Mc...Flurry? Well, we went over the weekend and let me tell you, there wasn't even a hint of disappointment. It was just as amazing as I imagined it would be. I'm pretty sure it's the perfect dessert (for caramel fans like myself). Now I have to convince my brain to forget all about the amazing deliciousness because I can't keep going back for more!

3. My sister flew in Sunday night to be here for my birthday. She totally rocks!

4. My hubby flew to Atlanta on my birthday. That's OK because we had already celebrated over the weekend with dinner and of course the amazing dessert. AND my sister was here to make up for hubby being gone. He's completely off the hook.

5. My sister left today to go back home. We went out to lunch before heading to the airport. I had a bowl of soup, and grabbed a cinnamon scone to give to my kids later. They love scones.
Well, by the time I dropped her off, ran a few errands and did some grocery shopping, it was 4 1/2 hours since I had that bowl of soup. I was hungry. OF COURSE I figured it would be a good idea to eat the scone, right? My kids would never have to know because they were still at school.
Yes people, I'm still STUPID even 2 years after band surgery. Let's just say I've been seeing pieces of scone for the last hour, and burping up the taste of cinnamon.
I'm pretty sure eating my kids food is never a good idea. EVER!

6. I took my sister on a brewery tour. It's a good thing I was driving because, as I mentioned before, I have a new found love of beer. I'll have to make my hubby bring me back there. Or I could just go buy some beer. Either way, it was tasty!

7. I haven't done Insanity or gone to the gym in the 4 days that my sister has been visiting. However, I did go for a run or walk every day after putting the kids on the bus. Monday and Tuesday I did a 2 mile run. Wednesday I did 1 mile but it was freezing and I couldn't take it any more. It felt good to realize that fitness has become a normal part of my daily life.

8. I'm going to cardio kick boxing tomorrow morning. I've missed it.

9. Our primary school had a dance last weekend. Our old town always had a Daddy-Daughter dance, and I was never allowed to go (me not being a dad and all). Well this dance was for families! We all got dressed up and went to the dance. We were the only family who really dressed up. I wore the new LBD. Hubby wore a tie. We were turning heads and told that there should be a prize for best dressed family.
Here's my kid cuttin' a rug. They couldn't stop dancing all night. It was a riot!

10. Hubby comes home tonight from Atlanta but not until a couple hours after the kids go to bed. I have a plan in place. I'll be getting into my fuzzy pajamas, making a cup of tea, and reading a book in bed. 2 hours of quiet. Mmmm, I can't wait!

Celebrating Two Years With Pictures

It's been a few weeks since my 2 year Bandiversary. I've been putting off writing this post for a couple of reasons.
First because we've been so darn busy around here with the start of a new school year. But also because I was feeling like I haven't been as successful as I wanted to be (I know, go ahead and slap me!).
I just wanted to have lost a little more weight and I'd LOVE to be down to 155. However, that hasn't happened and I need to stop fighting it.

I'm healthy and happy. I can run and jump and spin every single day, and even better yet, I actually enjoy doing it! That's a huge milestone for me and I need to start appreciating the non-scale victories in my life.

The weight loss part of my journey was exciting and fun but it's coming to a close. I need to embrace this next part of the journey, which happens to be the most important!
Maintenance  is my friend.

So, in keeping with tradition, here are my before, during, and now shots.
Enjoy!

Day 1
6 months
1 year
2 years

2 years

The '2 year' shots were taken this morning. If you look real close, you can even see my port (left side rib cage).

I decided just this morning that I'm going to do a mud run on my 3 year bandiversary. I noticed there is one on August 17, 2013 and it's right here in my neck of the woods. What better way to celebrate a big milestone in my life!? I have 11 months to train.
I can do this!

Enjoy the rest of your day folks.
Be well.

Oops, I almost did it again!

Having Monday off and the kids being back in school has just screwed me up all week long! It's Thursday again and I almost forgot again. Dammit!

Well, here goes my version of Ten Things Thursday:

1. I went to 2 stores today ALL BY MYSELF. Yes, that's right. I shopped alone. Kids are back in school and it felt really weird. I kept thinking I needed to hurry, then had to remind myself that there was no need to hurry because I was alone and the kids were in good hands. So weird!

2. I haven't been thrilled with the scale lately and I've been pretty sure it's because of my inability to stay away from the carbs. So yesterday I was all protein, all day. I had home made chili for lunch and a chicken burger for dinner (no sides).
Then I was up 4 pounds this morning. Yup, you read that right. FOUR FREAKING POUNDS.
And then the peeing started.
I peed when I got up. I peed before my work out. I peed after my work out. I peed before my shower, in the shower, and after my shower. I peed at Wally World and Tar-get. I peed when I got home and after I put away my groceries.
You get the picture. There was a lot of pee ALL DAY LONG. I was beginning to think I had some sort of infection!
Needless to say I'm fairly confident that the 4 pounds was water retention. Fingers (and legs) crossed!

3. Tomorrow is our last day of this round of the Insanity work out program. It has taken us longer than the 60 days because of my broken toe, hubby's back, and our vacation. But, we got through it and didn't die! We both see differences in our bodies, mostly muscle tone we didn't have before. After tomorrow we have to do the fitness test again. It'll be interesting to see how much we improve. Let me tell you, the test is HARD. The first time hubby did it, he threw up. 'Nuff said.

4. During my whole weight loss journey my hubby would often say "Just think Honey, one day you'll be picking out your LBD". He was talking about the coveted "Little Black Dress". Every woman wants one and an obese woman wishes she could find one that fits and looks good.
Every time I would get discouraged he would remind me of the goal of finding a LBD and that would make me smile.
Well today, while shopping at Tar-Get (alone) I found a Little Black Dress on the clearance rack. Size Medium. Marked down to $7. Had to be too good to be true. Not having kids with me, I had time to try it on.
I bought it.
I can now say that I am the proud owner of my very own LBD. It's hanging in my closet, so I need to get invited to a fancy dinner or wedding. Doesn't matter. I got the dress!

5. It's still hot here in Wisconsin but it's cooling a little bit and I can smell the crispness in the air. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I can't wait for apple picking and pumpkins and hay rides!

6. I was planning to work in the garden all day tomorrow while the kids are at school. Turns out it's going to rain all day so I guess I'll be inside cleaning, organizing, and maybe baking something good for my kids.

7. My birthday is next week and I have to choose a restaurant for the birthday dinner. That makes me think about how I used to love going out for sushi, and how I can't eat it at all any more. I can't tolerate even one grain of rice. I'll have to find a different favorite food now.

8. For many months now I've said all I want for my b-day is to go to McD's and get a R.O.L.O. Mc-Flurry. I LOVE caramel. I've been off the sugar, saving up for that one day to enjoy a special treat. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I hope it's as good as I remember.

9. My sister is flying in for my birthday, and my husband is flying out. He'll be away on business so I'm glad the big sis could come in and I won't have to celebrate alone.

10. My hip is killing me. I'm taking ibuprofen like they're candy. I need a new hip. I feel old.

That's it for tonight my loves. Have a great night!

Back to School

Yesterday was the first day of school here in Wisconsin. It was a little hard on my because my 'baby' started Kindergarten and I realized we will no longer have our special mommy-daughter afternoons together while her big sister is still in school.

I know it's a cliche and you hear it all the time, but they really DO grow up way too fast.

Here they are video conferencing with their Grandmother in NY before going to school. They were so excited to show her the outfits they picked out, and that they were dressed like twins (they're 18 months apart).

Like the over protective mommy I am, I followed the bus to school. I wanted to make sure the little one was able to find her class. Well, I'm glad I did because it was total chaos and the older one was in tears and confused. I helped them find their teachers, teared up a bit behind my big sun glasses, and left them. I assured myself that they would both be just fine, even the one who was crying her heart out. I need to let them go and let them grow. Parenthood is no easy job!

I came home and for nearly SEVEN hours, I cleaned my house! Now, please don't think I normally live in squalor,  because I don't. I just was finally able to get around to the deep cleaning stuff that got put off all summer long (like cleaning and organizing the laundry room).
The house looks great and it kept my mind off of how much I missed my kids!

Then, because I long for the title of "Super Mom", I baked these...

Yes, I'm aware that I only have 2 kids but I made 3 mini-cakes. Of course I ate the extra one. I am human. However, I made it the old WW way where you use a can of diet soda instead of all the oil and eggs. Have you tried it? It makes for a super moist cake. I also used sugar free frosting. They were a big hit with the kiddos.

The mix also made 12 regular size cupcakes which I promptly packaged up and put in the freezer. I don't need the temptation staring me in the face.

So, today they're both at school and I did not follow the bus this time. I'm at home having new windows installed. I'll probably be going through the kids rooms throwing out all the junk they have accumulated that they think they must save forever!

I plan to enjoy this first week back when I'm able to get everything done, because next week I go back to work part time, and of course back to the gym. Then I'll be back to wondering how women who work full time are able to get it all done.

I hope your kids had a great first day of school if they started this week.
Enjoy!
